Eeks, It's Been A While

Happy new year, all! Well, it's been a lot easier sticking with other habits like working out and eating right but sadly my blog-writing fell off the wagon. I'm going to give it another shot as I've got plenty of material to post so I'll keep it short and sweet.

Here are a few images from a cyclo-cross bike racing series that my boyfriends competes in every year called SoCal Cross. I'm not much of an action shooter especially with my Hasselblad so I took photos of other things that I observed at the event. The event was held in Oceanside, CA near Camp Pendleton and part of the course ran alongside the ocean for an added challenge.  The day was cold but the sun was blaring.

Happy Thanksgiving weekend, everyone!  We enjoyed a homemade Thanksgiving dinner for two including curried butternut squash soup, roasted turkey breast, roasted brussel sprouts, mashed potatoes, and cranberry apple compote with spice candied nuts and vanilla ice cream!  Yum.

Lovin' La Jolla

A few months ago I was asked to participate in a portfolio review for the American Photographic Artists San Diego chapter.  I always enjoy these events because it's exciting to discover new talent and to offer up my 2 cents of advice.  Since the review was scheduled on a Saturday morning, Wendel and I decided to extend our visit and hang out in La Jolla for the weekend.  Neither of us had spent any time in the beach town so it was fun to play tourist.  We stayed at The Grande Colonial, a historic hotel overlooking the ocean.

I FINALLY got my new Epson v750 scanner up and running so I've been scanning like a maniac.   For those of you interested in a short product review, I will say that it's AWESOME and definitely worth the cost.  Here are a few photos that I took with my boyfriend's old Yashika 35 mm up in Half Moon Bay a few years ago.  We visited Mavericks Beach which is a world-class spot for surfers in Northern California.  Word on the street is that is popular with sharks too!  Thankfully I never saw any but did capture a bunch of great photos.  I'll be posting more throughout the next couple days.  

I'll also be posting my recipe for Millet, toasted pecans and currants!!  Yum.

Happy Friday!  What are your plans for the weekend?  My boyfriend and I will be taking off for a rustic weekend getaway up near the Sequoia National Forest (it's about 3.5 hours north of Los Angeles).  Our friend lent us her cabin and we're excited to enjoy the fresh air, chilly temps and all the mountain biking/hiking we can squeeze into our 3-day adventure.  We may even visit a ghost town!  I'll be sharing my photos next week b/c there's no internet service up there.  :-)

Winter Warmer

This weekend's weather in Southern California was nothing short of amazing!  Even after living here for 5 years, I still seem to forget that it doesn't really get cold by the beach.  Yesterday, my boyfriend and I visited Founder's Park in Rancho Palos Verdes.  It's a little park that cuts right by the Trump National Golf Course and includes a rocky, dog-friendly beach.  It's also a great spot if you like to explore tidepools.

72 and Sunny

If you live in California or have visited, you might be familiar with the saying that the weather is always "72 and sunny."  It really holds true and this Thanksgiving holiday, it didn't let us down.  The weather couldn't have been better.  I sometimes wonder why we even have folks who forecast the weather here.  Anyway, here are some photos of the rocky coastline and beach area in Palos Verdes, CA.  If you love to hike and ride your bike, this is a great place to enjoy an afternoon.

A Foggy Day

While the East Coast got pummeled with an early snowfall, folks near the beach in Southern California were shrouded in fog.  Here's a photo of a set of steps at Torrance Beach aka "Rat Beach."  Incidentally, it's not named Rat Beach because of vermin but because it stands for "right above Torrance."
